Pokud by Rusko takové podmínky stanovilo, mohlo by to být vnímáno pouze jako pokus o prodloužení války a podkopání diplomacie. Požadovali, aby příměří bylo komplexní: ve vzduchu, na moři i na souši. Zdůraznili, že by to vyžadovalo účinné monitorování, které by mohlo být úspěšně provedeno v úzké koordinaci se Spojenými státy. Shodli se na tom, že příměří by mělo trvat alespoň 30 dnů, aby se vytvořil prostor pro diplomacii.
