As part of European unity, it is more than ever up to the Commission to assert the Union's determination to defend European interests resolutely. In particular, this means speeding up the preparation of credible countermeasures, by mobilising all the instruments at its disposal, including anti-coercion, if no agreement is reached by 1 August

Iranian authorities this week confirmed that Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris have been indicted for spying for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, conspiracy to overthrow the regime, and “corruption on earth”—a capital offense under Iranian law. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said the charges were “totally unjustified and baseless” if confirmed, and repeated France’s demand for their immediate release.
