Germany’s finance minister is throwing his weight behind France on the need for a tough counterstrike against President Donald Trump’s latest attempt to press for U.S. control of Greenland

During a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, President Ahmed al-Sharaa reviewed the latest developments in Syria, with both presidents emphasizing the importance of Syria's unity and sovereignty and rejecting separatist tendencies.

French President Emmanuel Macron: ; I spoke today with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and conveyed our concern regarding the escalation in Syria and the continued offensive by the authorities. ; A permanent ceasefire is now essential, and an agreement must be reached on integrating the Syrian Democratic Forces into the Syrian state, based on the talks held last March.

Starting on February 1st, 2026, all of the above mentioned Countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Finland), will be charged a 10% Tariff on any and all goods sent to the United States of America. On June 1st, 2026, the Tariff will be increased to 25%.
